What is Divestment?

The phasing out of investments in fossil fuel corporations. Continued fossil fuel investments lead to further destruction of our environment and puts people at risk.

ESG Investments
Environmental, Social, Governance Investments.
Examples include the creation of a separate socially responsible investment fund, development of a concrete ESG evaluation process, and the inclusion of student voices within the Foundation.
Our Demands
1. The University of Arizona Treasury completes phased divestment from fossil fuels by 2026.
2. The UArizona Foundation (UAF) completes phased divestment from fossil fuels by 2029.
3. UAF and UArizona publicly commit in writing to no further investments in the fossil fuel industry from this point forward.
4. UAF and UArizona concretely defines and implements Environmental, Social Governance (ESG) investment policies and partnerships, inclusive of becoming a signatory of the United Nations’ Principles of Responsible Investment.
5. The UA Foundation include student representation, with voting power, on the Board of Trustees and the Investments Committee.
